Name-Based Case Searches
Open the free Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search and Routt County is already selected. You can query by a person's name. A business name, an attorney name, or an attorney bar number works too. A date by itself will not work. Pair the date with at least one other field, and widen the window so it covers the hearing you expect. Long result sets are common. A widespread surname may call for a court type, case class, or first name to cut the noise.
- Confirm that the paperwork names Routt County Court or Routt County District Court, not a municipal court.
- Select Individual or Business and enter the most exact name available.
- Choose County or District Court, a useful date range, and a case class when known.
- Select Find Dockets, review all result pages, and match the case number and setting details.
- Ask the Clerk of Court to verify a setting when a result conflicts with a notice or order.

Find Dockets submits the query, and Clear Results wipes it clean. Once results appear, you get Export Results, a Printable Version, pagination, and a showing-X-through-Y count. Partial names do not guarantee exact matches. Bring the case number if you have it. Check hearing details against your current court papers.
Routt Docket Filters Explained
The Routt County docket form also lets you filter by Judicial District, county, courthouse, division, year, case class, and sequence. Routt sits in Colorado's 14th Judicial District. For the most local results, choose Routt County Combined Court as the courthouse. Division takes free text. Case class comes from a fixed list: criminal, traffic, civil, domestic, juvenile, probate, and water codes.
After results load, you can export or print a broad Routt County case search. Those buttons save calendar rows only. They do not create a clerk-certified court record. Orders, judgments, charges, sentences, filings, and pleadings still require a Register of Action. A document request works too.
The official Colorado Courts E-Filing description covers a separate system reserved for authorized users.
The filing platform and the anonymous Routt County court calendar for public settings are two different things. This image helps keep them apart.
Routt Date-Only Search Error
The Routt County docket form rejects a date standing alone. Before hitting Find Dockets, add a case number, party, business, attorney, court, division, or case class.
A one-week default window can also hide a known setting. Pick a range that truly spans the date printed on your latest notice.
Case Number Searches
A Routt County case number breaks into three searchable parts: a four-digit year, case-class letters, and a one-to-six-digit sequence. The pattern looks like YYYYCR####. Enter each part in its own field rather than pasting one string into a name box. Class CR marks District criminal matters. M and T handle misdemeanor and traffic classes. C, CV, and S cover civil and small claims; DR, PR, JV or JD, CW, and R route the other categories the official request form describes.
The exact number is the surest way to dodge a name-search charge when a later record request is needed. It also prevents false matches between people or businesses with similar names. If the number on your notice carries spaces or punctuation, use the year, class, and sequence the way the state form asks.
Routt Case Number Building
Every piece of a Routt County docket number serves a purpose. The year marks when the case was filed, the letters name the case class, and the sequence sets that case apart from others filed in the same class. The search screen splits these parts into separate fields, yet the calendar still joins them together in each result row.
- Year
- Exactly four digits entered in the 4-Digit Year field.
- Case Class
- The court category chosen from the portal's official code list.
- Sequence
- One through six digits that complete the file identifier.
- Location
- Routt County identifies the Combined Court calendar layer.
Never guess a class from a charge description. Take the letters straight off the citation, order, summons, or other court paper. The Clerk of Court can sort out an old or unclear number.
Case Search Results Explained
A Routt County docket result is a scheduled event, not a full case-detail page. It gives you just enough to identify the hearing and plan attendance. Left out are the filing date, judge, full caption, attorneys, charges, claim, filing chronology, document links, money fields, final outcome, related cases, and any redaction reasons.
| Hearing | Date, start time, expected duration, and hearing type |
|---|---|
| Case | Party or business name and the joined case number |
| Place | Routt County location and courtroom |
| Method | Appearance type, which may be blank, telephone, in person, or virtual |
| Missing detail | No ROA, pleadings, orders, financial detail, or final disposition |
A blank appearance field never authorizes attending remotely. Follow the court's current notice or clerk confirmation instead. Watching a livestream does not count as a legal appearance.
Routt Docket Result Limits
A missing Routt County docket result deserves a second look at the date range first. The event may simply fall outside that window. Other culprits: a municipal case, an old file stored off-site, a restricted matter, a recent filing, or a case filed under a different court or class. A failed search proves neither that a case is absent nor that it is sealed. The docket may still exist.
No result: read the court name on the source paper, widen the date range, check the case-number parts, and contact the proper clerk.
Steamboat Springs, Hayden, Oak Creek, and Yampa each keep their own municipal case records. The state docket search does not merge those city registers with Routt County Court and District Court settings.
Routt Printable Docket Limits
Two buttons stretch a Routt County hearing list into something you can keep. Printable Version saves the calendar as paper. Export Results saves it as a file. Both carry a catch. Neither output is a certified record. Neither restores the filing history or document images the calendar leaves out.
For the full chronology, ask the clerk for the ROA. Then pick out each filed document you need. Certification is worth requesting only when someone must have an authenticated copy.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Routt County runs no second local portal for its state court cases. One calendar system serves the whole Judicial Branch. So the Routt-filtered docket page and the statewide version draw from the very same data. A docket search on either returns matching hearings.
When that calendar feels too narrow, go to the Clerk of Court. That office can look past what the public calendar shows. Colorado Courts E-Filing sits above it as one more layer. It serves authorized users rather than anonymous public access.
| Access Layer | What It Provides | Best Use |
|---|---|---|
| Routt-filtered Docket Search | Free County and District Court settings | Known Routt hearing or case |
| Statewide Docket Search | Same calendar with statewide court filters | Uncertain Colorado county |
| Combined Court clerk | ROA, selected documents, plain or certified copies | Official chronology or case file |
| Colorado Courts E-Filing | Authorized filing and case-history access | Eligible registered users |
Routt E-Filing Access Layer
The Judicial Branch E-Filing application sits behind a login. It feeds the state case-management record for cases in civil, domestic, probate, water, criminal, juvenile, misdemeanor, and traffic categories. Authorized users can search at no charge. Anyone who did not file in a case can still get in. They pay a case-history fee for it. Access then expires after a set time. So this is not the Routt County court docket for anonymous browsing. Think of it as a registered layer on top of the record, not a public case lookup.
The registered-access design points to a simple order of operations. A free calendar first, then the clerk, then the clerk again when a real court record is what you need. A public Routt County docket search works best that way.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Colorado access rules pull certain Routt County cases and documents out of ordinary public results. The list runs long: relinquishment, juvenile delinquency, mental health, judicial bypass, dependency and neglect, adoption, paternity, truancy, and sealed or expunged matters. Even an open file can hold restricted slices. Examples include medical, treatment, financial, identity, probation, presentence, or juror information.
A missing hit does not always mean restriction. The case may sit in a municipal court. It may fall outside the date window, sit in off-site storage, or simply not be indexed yet. One more wrinkle exists. The sealed-case interface serves only a qualifying defendant's own information. It demands identity details plus a declaration, so it is no substitute for a public search.
Routt Court Search Custodian Trap
Watch for a common mix-up in Routt County. The Clerk and Recorder is not the Clerk of Court. Deeds, plats, elections, vehicles, marriage licenses, and vital records fill its databases. District Court or County Court cases do not live there.
A judicial case belongs on the Judicial Branch docket and with the Combined Court clerk. Keep those offices straight. That keeps a court request from landing in the historic county-record system by mistake.
Routt Clerk Search Fallback
For unclear settings or complete records, the Clerk of Court is the official fallback. That office sits at the Routt County Combined Court. Call 970-879-5020 ext. 7, stop by 1955 Shield Drive, Unit 200, or file the statewide record request form. The counter serves the public Monday through Friday. Hours run 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Expect the form to ask for the case number, case type, year, Routt location, party name, and the exact product you want.
Know the products. A Register of Action is just the short chronological summary. Complaints, tickets, judgments, orders, decrees, and certified copies must each be selected on their own. Web requests normally land within three business days, though complex, restricted, or off-site retrieval can stretch that. The fuller request path is laid out with the Routt County court case records.
Note: The Routt County Clerk and Recorder handles land, election, vehicle, and vital records, not state judicial case files.
