Find Routt County Criminal Court Dockets

Most Routt County criminal cases live in one of two places: the state Combined Courts or a municipal court, and the paper you got names which one. Colorado's free judicial calendar shows upcoming hearings, while the clerk of court holds the real depth, the criminal Register of Action and the filed documents behind it. Start with a Routt County criminal court docket search to check a hearing date, then turn to the clerk when you need charges, minute orders, or sentence details. Felonies and misdemeanors run on separate state-court tracks. City code cases stay with the city court. And if the calendar shows nothing, that alone proves nothing about sealing or closure.

Routt Criminal Docket Class Codes

The class field carries real meaning. It tells you which layer of the state court system a Routt County criminal docket search belongs in. Felonies carry the code CR. Misdemeanors use M, and T marks a traffic class. On the official request form, R sits grouped with the criminal matters. One wrinkle trips people up. A felony complaint can open in County Court before the felony case moves on to District Court.

YYYYCR####
A structural District Court criminal case number, with year, CR class, and sequence.
YYYYM###
A structural misdemeanor number searched through the County Court layer.
YYYYT###
A structural traffic case number. The issuing court on the citation still controls.
R class
A class grouped with County criminal matters on the record-request form.

Municipal-code cases sit outside that whole system. Steamboat Springs, Hayden, Oak Creek, and Yampa each run their own city dockets. A Sheriff's citation may still route to state County Court rather than Steamboat Municipal Court, so read the court line on the paper before picking a search tool.

Criminal Dockets: What They Show

A Routt calendar entry answers a narrow question. It tells you when and where the next event is set. Much of the case substance stays off it. The criminal ROA is the chronological summary of the file. For the underlying text, you need the filed papers themselves. Treat a calendar printout as what it is. Never treat it as a certified disposition or sentence record.

Case numberYear, class, and sequence, such as YYYYCR####.

ROA detailsA brief chronology that may include charges, sentences, and minute orders.
Separate papersComplaint or information, disposition or sentence order, protection order, and ticket must be selected as needed.
Not on calendarCharges, counsel, bond, plea, disposition, financial terms, related cases, and document links.

Setting labels you might see include First Hearing, Plea Hearing, Status Conference, Show Cause Hearing, and Court Trial. Each one names an event, not an outcome. For why the event was set, the notice and the requested ROA give the best context.

Routt Criminal Calendar Limits

A live Routt case can look strangely empty on the public calendar. The portal shows no charge count, bond field, counsel listing, plea, sentence, or linked pleading. That is a limit of the portal, not proof the facts are missing. Request the criminal ROA along with the exact filed order or charging document. For how the shared name, attorney, and case-number fields work, see the full Routt County docket search process.

Saved results also go stale in a hurry. A search window can cut off the next event. A reset can drop an old setting from the current list. If a hearing vanishes, compare the notice. Widen the date range. Then call the Combined Court clerk. One failed query does not mean a case was dismissed or sealed.

Note: Colorado uses "docket" for the court schedule. The Register of Action supplies the fuller chronological criminal case summary.

Criminal Case Stages on the Docket

A Routt County criminal ROA can follow a matter from its first charging paper all the way to a final result. The exact path varies. A felony complaint may begin in County Court. The felony case then moves through District Court. Misdemeanors stay in County Court unless another lawful route applies. Municipal ordinance prosecutions belong to the relevant city clerk and judge throughout.

Docket flow: Filing › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing

Between those endpoints, minute and bond orders can appear. Motions and their rulings may shift the next setting, and a negotiated disposition can replace trial altogether. Post-sentence filings or an appeal add further entries. Since the court publishes no official list of Routt abbreviations, broad stage names beat guessing at local codes.

Routt Criminal Docket Filing Scale

Official FY2024 statistics give the local criminal docket its scale. Routt District Court received 168 district criminal filings. Routt County Court took in 438 misdemeanor filings plus 163 felony complaints. Those categories mark different points in the court structure. So do not merge them into a claim that each filing equals a separate person or a final outcome.

The numbers also explain why court selection matters so much. A County Court felony complaint and a later District Court felony number may be connected, yet the public calendar alone will not spell out the link. The ROA and the clerk are the sound channels for tracing it.

Routt County Criminal Docket Courts

Which court holds a Routt County criminal docket depends on the charge. Felonies belong to the Routt County District Court, part of the 14th Judicial District. Misdemeanors, traffic cases, infractions, and preliminary felony complaints go to Routt County Court instead. A single Clerk of Court at the Routt County Combined Court serves both state courts. That means one office covers most docket searches. Four municipal courts also keep their own ordinance and municipal-traffic files. So the state calendar is not the only place a case can appear.

County Court appeals climb to District Court. District Court appeals move on to the Colorado Court of Appeals. An appeal can add new docket entries and a new appellate case number, so the current calendar may not show the whole path. The trial ROA helps there.

Routt Criminal Treatment Dockets

The 14th Judicial District overview lists an Adult Offender Treatment Court in Routt County. It is not a separate search database. Search the underlying criminal case number instead. Ask the Combined Court clerk what can be released. Treatment reports, probation information, assessments, and substance-use records may stay protected even when the hearing setting itself is public.

The official Routt probation page describes supervision and treatment contacts for people in the program. It is a resource, not the home of the court docket.

Routt Criminal Docket Restrictions

Restricting a criminal file takes legal authority. Colorado Rule of Criminal Procedure 55.1 requires a written order. That order must identify the interest at stake, the likely harm, why no less restrictive choice works, and why the interest outweighs public access. Redaction comes before broader restriction. Police and other criminal-justice records fall under the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act instead. They are not automatically court filings.

The Judicial Branch sealing hub routes each kind of case to the proper forms.

Routt County criminal docket sealing form resources

Sealing is a formal procedure. A missing calendar hit is not itself sealing. The official Sealed Case Search serves only defendants seeking qualifying information about their own matters.

Identity fields and a declaration block any public back door.

Access Rules for Criminal Dockets

Access starts with the free calendar. In-person inspection is available at reasonable times. Record restrictions and identification requirements still apply. Beyond the calendar, the clerk's record process handles deeper requests, and a generic county CORA request is not the normal route to a District or County Court ROA. The elected Routt County Clerk and Recorder keeps land and county records, not state judicial case files.

The 14th Judicial District orders page posts current directives on bond and filing practices.

Local rules shift. Bond and filing procedures can change without the public calendar ever showing new fields, so current orders are worth a look.

Key access rules:

CJD 05-01 governs public, remote, restricted, and facility-only court-record access.

Crim. P. 55.1 requires a reasoned written order to restrict criminal court records.

C.R.S. sections 24-72-301 et seq. govern criminal justice records and applicable access limits.
