Routt County Civil Docket Searches
The free Routt Judicial Docket Search is the natural first stop. Pick District or County Court if you know which one holds the case. A date-only query fails validation, so add a filter. A number search takes three parts. Use a four-digit filing year, the case-class letters, and a one-to-six-digit sequence. Party, business, and attorney fields work as alternatives. Set the date window wide enough to reach the expected event. Then treat each result as a setting, nothing more.
Searching is only one channel. The state Record/Document Request Form gets you an ROA or a filed paper. Choose Routt as the location, enter the case and party details, and list each document. The Combined Court counter at 1955 Shield Drive, Unit 200, handles in-person requests. Call 970-879-5020 ext. 7 if the class is unclear. Call it too when a setting is missing or the file is older. Ask the clerk before mailing any request or payment. No Routt-specific mail or fax procedure is posted.
- Identify District Court, County Court, or Water Division 6.
- Pick C, CV, S, DR, PR, or CW as the case requires.
- Search the expected date range by number, party, business, or attorney.
- Confirm the hearing fields, then request the ROA for chronology.
- Select a judgment, satisfaction, family, or probate document separately.
Routt Civil Docket Class Codes
Class codes sort unlike matters into different Routt County civil docket files. C and CV handle ordinary civil work. S flags small claims. DR marks domestic relations, PR probate, and CW water. The Judicial Branch's own forms and court descriptions supply these mappings, not a glossary on the search screen.
- C or CV
- Ordinary civil cases in County or District Court, depending on claim and jurisdiction.
- S
- Small Claims cases within the stated division limit.
- DR
- Domestic-relations matters, with tighter access to some files.
- PR
- Probate cases, where identification or document limits may apply.
- CW
- Water matters that also use Division 6 resumes and rulings.
A structural case number like YYYYCV##### strings together the year, the class, and the sequence. Keep all three parts intact, and many false misses disappear.
Civil Dockets: What They Show
The public Routt calendar lists only event fields. For substance, turn to the civil ROA, which adds the filing sequence, and to the complaint, order, or judgment itself. A calendar hit alone cannot establish a claim amount, service, a motion result, or final judgment.
| Visible setting | Date, time, duration, party or business name, case number, hearing type, location, appearance method, and courtroom. |
|---|---|
| Initiating paper | Complaint or petition and later proof of service belong in the file, not the calendar result. |
| Case activity | Answers, motions, responses, minute orders, and signed orders appear through the ROA or documents. |
| Outcome | Judgment, dismissal, satisfaction, execution, garnishment, or appeal may follow. |
| Absent online | Full caption, party roles, counsel, claim, amount, service, filings, financials, and downloadable documents. |
Event labels you may see include Status Conference, Initial Conference Appearance, Temporary Orders Hearing, NonContested Hearing, PreTrial Conference, Return Date on Summons, and Court Trial. Always read the label alongside the notice.
Routt Civil Docket Limits
The Judicial Branch case-opening guidance confirms the division of civil work.

Where you file turns on the amount at stake. Routt District Court may hear civil cases of any amount. Routt County Court tops out at $25,000, and Small Claims at $7,500. That choice shapes the whole docket search.
| Court or division | Routt civil docket work | Key boundary |
|---|---|---|
| District Court | General civil, domestic, probate, mental health, water assignments | Civil cases of any amount |
| County Court | Lower-dollar civil and protection orders | Claims through $25,000 |
| Small Claims | Streamlined civil claims | Claims through $7,500 |
Municipal courts mainly enforce city ordinances, not ordinary private lawsuits. A city citation system will never hold a Routt County civil suit, so searching one just misses the right file.
What Cases Fill the Civil Docket
Routt civil dockets reach well past contract disputes. District Court also handles domestic relations, probate, mental-health work, and assigned water matters. County Court takes civil money claims and evictions within its limits, and Small Claims runs its own return and mediation practice. Public visibility varies by category.
- Contract, property, tort, and other general civil claims
- County civil money and eviction matters
- Small Claims cases
- Domestic-relations and protection-order matters
- Probate and mental-health proceedings
- Water Division 6 applications, claims, and rulings
FY2024 filing counts show how different the Routt County civil docket streams are in scale. District Court recorded 336 civil filings. It added 111 domestic-relations filings, 80 probate filings, and 20 mental-health filings. Routt County Court recorded 232 civil filings. Small Claims recorded 37. These are aggregate counts, not totals of unique people, pending cases, or public documents. They also cannot replace the court class printed on a summons or petition. Use that number and class. Domestic, probate, and mental-health matters can follow access rules that differ from an ordinary CV case. The figures leave out the separate Water Division 6 count. They also omit municipal ordinance enforcement. That is not a civil lawsuit. That split is exactly why a broad party-name search needs a court, class, and date-range check. Only then trust a result as the right Routt civil matter.
One more caution on access. A public setting can stay visible while protected documents do not. Juvenile, mental-health, deposited-will, family, and probate material may require identification, redaction, or a court order.
Routt Civil Return Date Traps
Not every civil date is a hearing on the merits. Some are deadlines. County civil money returns fall on Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. They serve as answer dates. A District Court eviction date works the same way. A hearing comes only after an answer is filed. Treat either one as a trial and you head down the wrong path fast.
Small Claims timing: Routt Small Claims summons returns take place in person in Courtroom 1A, and parties arrive 30 minutes early for mediation.
Pin down the event's purpose with the notice, the ROA, and clerk confirmation. A Return Date on Summons is not a Court Trial or a Temporary Orders Hearing. Where the calendar and notice conflict, the court's current order and the clerk's confirmation control.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
A civil case begins with a complaint or petition. It then moves through service, an answer or default, motions, notices, minute orders, signed orders, and final resolution. The path bends, though. Settlement, dismissal, or an uncontested order can end things before trial ever arrives. After judgment, expect steps like satisfaction, a Transcript of Judgment, execution, garnishment, or appeal.
Typical civil flow: Filing › Service › Answer › Motions › Setting › Order or Trial › Judgment
Routt County schedules District civil settings on Mondays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. After a Monday holiday, the call slides to Tuesday. Treat the setting as a scheduling channel only. It does not prove the merits hearing actually happened at that hour. Whoever requests the time files a notice carrying the approved appearance details.
Routt Water Civil Dockets
Water Division 6 runs its own official stream for these cases. Monthly resumes announce the applications. Rulings and orders come out separately, so the Water Division 6 page is the essential stop for any Routt water-rights matter.

That official page shows why a water case cannot be squeezed into an ordinary County Court calendar search.
Those official figures sit beside 60 filings and 123 claims in FY2023. Volume alone says nothing about where any one application stands.
Routt Civil Judgment Requests
Civil products on the record form are not interchangeable. An Order for Judgment, Transcript of Judgment, Satisfaction of Judgment, Protection Order, ROA, and certified copy are the choices here. Each serves a different purpose. A Transcript of Judgment is a $25 clerk product. It is used to evidence a judgment. Despite its name, it is not a transcript of testimony. Certified or exemplified copies run $20 per document plus any applicable copy charge.
Order only what the receiving office actually requires. Current form guidance lists $0.25 per copy page. Research or redaction may add $30 per hour after the first hour. Older files can carry actual off-site retrieval cost. The clerk quotes it. Bringing the exact case number also avoids a $5 name search.
For the wider request path, the Routt County court case records page sorts out the calendar, the ROA, a filed document, and a certified copy.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Access rules come from Colorado CJD 05-01. The directive governs Routt judicial files, not the county CORA form. It sets out public, remote, restricted, and facility-only access. The current directive can demand redaction, identification, or a court order before protected material moves. Separate Children's Code rules govern juvenile, dependency, adoption, paternity, truancy, and relinquishment records. The official CJD 05-01 page tracks the active directive and its amendment history.

The directive, not any missing web result, decides whether material is public, protected, suppressed, or sealed.
Access rule: A free calendar result does not unlock every filed paper. Request the public ROA or named document and provide identification if the case category requires it.
You can still inspect files at the court facility at reasonable times. Web requests aim for an answer within three business days absent complications. If access is denied or restricted, ask for the governing authority and the review process that applies.
